The Sketchbook is a miscellaneous tool which is used to record the blueprints of building components found in the world.

Crafting

The Sketchbook can be crafted at a workbench with one charcoal, one paper, and two wood.

Uses

With the sketchbook equipped, hold the right mouse button to begin scanning the environment. Hover the cursor over a building component, such as those found in ruined settlements. Any components which are already known to the player will be highlighted in a black charcoal-texture aura. Components for which the player has not yet learned the respective blueprint will instead gain a bright orange aura.

While looking at any unknown building component, left-click to sketch it and learn that blueprint. Using the sketchbook costs one paper and one charcoal per blueprint to be learned.
